A pleated (plissé) mosquito net keeps insects out while letting air and light in, and it folds away almost invisibly when you don't need it. The one thing it needs is the right size. The good news: measuring takes about five minutes and you only need a tape measure.
What you need
- A steel tape measure in millimetres
- A pen and paper (or your phone)
- Five minutes per window
Step 1 – Decide where the net will sit
Most pleated nets are fitted inside the window recess (the opening in the wall), so the frame sits flush and looks built-in. Check that the recess is free of handles, sills or shutter guides that would block the net's rails.
Step 2 – Measure the width in three places
Measure the width of the recess at the top, in the middle and at the bottom. Walls are rarely perfectly straight, so the three numbers will often differ by a few millimetres. Write down the smallest one.
Step 3 – Measure the height in three places
Do the same for the height: left side, centre and right side. Again, keep the smallest value.
Step 4 – Enter the recess size, not the net size
In the Window-All configurator you enter the exact size of the opening. You don't need to subtract anything yourself: we apply the fitting tolerance needed for a pleated net automatically before production, so the frame slides in without forcing.
Windows or patio doors?
- Windows: a side-opening pleated net with a slim 25 mm frame is the neatest choice.
- Patio and French doors: choose the 45 mm frame. It is sturdier for daily walking through and has a low threshold you can step over easily.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Measuring the window frame instead of the wall opening.
- Rounding up. If in doubt, use the smaller measurement.
- Forgetting obstacles such as handles, sill overhangs or roller-shutter guides.
- Measuring in centimetres and typing millimetres (or the other way round).
